Unity I is a corten steel sculpture with chamotte sculpture by contemporary artist Delphine Brabant, dimensions are 300 × 70 × 50 cm (18.1 × 27.6 × 19.7 in).
The sculpture is signed and numbered, it is part of a limited edition of 8 editions + 4 artist’s proofs, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
As she alternates between vertical and horizontal shapes, fullness and emptiness, the artist creates geometric shapes in this series that combine various volumes and right angles. These components are put together to form new volumes, which occasionally remind me of modern architecture projects.
In her abstract sculptures, Delphine Brabant, who is fascinated by the idea of construction, assembles and fits together a variety of straightforward forms like an architect. The artist finds inspiration in the verticality, horizontality, and interaction between solid and space. She favours simple geometric shapes and bases her art on the idea of balance.

Delphine Brabant
Deeply fascinated with the concept of construction, Delphine Brabant composes her abstract sculptures like an architect, assembling and fitting together a multitude of simple forms. Inspired by nature as much as by cityscapes and buildings, the contemporary artist develops her artistic research around the concepts of verticality and horizontality, the balance between fullness and emptiness, and the notions of group and harmony. Delphine Brabant works with bronze, steel, concrete, plaster and clay but also stone and wood. “In my work, there are always two opposing ideas. Strength and fragility. The full and the void. Light and darkness. Balance and imbalance.’’

Remnants of personal stories, visions and observations in nature are the driving forces in her work. She believes that what we see and do in our daily lives leaves a mark on our planet. It is the direct impact of human activities on the natural world, which is visualized in her artistic practice. She creates connections with nature using crepe myrtle trees found along the side of the road. Each stick is hand-carved and cut to fit, then laid in place and secured with a small myrtle peg. What takes precedence in the laborious process is the importance of detail and evidence of the artist’s hand and her interaction with the materials. Sherry Owens is a native Texan, currently living and working in Dallas, TX. She received a BFA from Southern Methodist University. Recent Texas solo exhibitions include The Grace Museum; Cris Worley Fine Arts; Martin Museum of Art; Art Museum of Southeast Texas; and a two-person site-specific installation at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum. She was also included in recent exhibitions at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, TX and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, LA. She has exhibited internationally in Austria, Denmark, Germany, Greece, India, Japan, Peru, and Turkey.
